Early in life, we're continually asked "what do you want to be when you grow up?" This question, although very important, can be frightening. The fear of being stuck in a dead end job you despise can haunt your dreams. According to Forbes, 87% of workers worldwide are emotionally disconnected from work meaning they're unhappy and more likely to be unproductive. So, how does one avoid being in that situation? Try these tips:

Define what success means to you

There are many ways to define success and view success. Finding that definition is important when deciding what path to travel. Is success making a lot of money, helping other people, or even moving your way up the corporate latter? Defining this is the first step in finding career happiness.

Create a lifestyle you love

What kind of life do you want to lead? Do you want to travel, live in the city, lead a simple life, or even live off the grid? Your career path effects the type of life you live so take that into consideration.

Become an expert in the industry

When selecting the industry you want to pursue, ask yourself "am I willing to become an expert in this field?"Any career you go into will require you to learn new skills, it all depends on how much you're willing to learn.  That is how you become successful.

Define your assets

Its important to define what you love to do but you also have to consider what skills you bring to the table. Are you skilled in the career that you want to be in and if not, can you become skilled?

Know thyself

What is your personality type? Different careers require different types of people. Are you an introvert or extrovert? Are you individualistic or collective? Having trouble defining what your personality type is? Try taking this personality test.

Map out our career goals

Outlining your goals can help you visualize where you want to be within a particular time frame and how you can get there.

Keep in mind, your career path is a marathon, not a sprint. Career goals aren't accomplished right away, it takes patience, persistence, and hard work.
