Choptank Transport was pleased to host two Salisbury University students this week at its Preston, Maryland, campus, Jamie Drown and Eric Rubinstein. Drown and Rubinstein are recent recipients of scholarships through the Mid-Atlantic Sales and Marketing Institute (MASMI). Drown received her scholarship from Choptank Transport's Sales & Marketing program and Rubinstein received a scholarship from Avalanche Industries. The awards were announced at the MASMI Symposium in early March.

The students’ visit took place amid the construction of Choptank’s latest expansion project, which will create space for 130 new sales and logistics positions.  They received a tour of the facility and spent time job-shadowing in both the sales and marketing departments.

Giving students like Drown and Rubinstein a glimpse inside a busy supply chain operation helps raise awareness of how fast the logistics industry is growing. This hands-on approach helps validate the growth potential and career benefits of an industry that is often passed over by the college, university, and academic communities.

After the tour, Drown said she was surprised at the size of the operation. “It’s not what I thought it would be. It is much larger than I pictured and the interaction between the employees is great.”

Rubinstein also commented on the energy and momentum he saw during his visit and added, “There seems to be a real camaraderie between co-workers and that’s important when you are looking to launch your career.”

“Both Jamie and Eric are outstanding students and have demonstrated the drive and ability needed to be able to succeed in today’s business climate,” said Pam Hutchinson, Vice President of Human Resources at Choptank Transport. “We are happy to be able to support them in their education and give them a jump start as they begin their careers.”
