Choptank Transport is teaming up with the Maryland Motor Truck Association (MMTA) September 11-17 to celebrate National Truck Driver Appreciation Week.
Choptank Transport has traditionally celebrated Truck Driver Appreciation Week by choosing one day during the observance to meet and greet drivers and owner-operators at a busy truck stop or rest area in Maryland or Delaware. See some of Choptank Transport's driver appreciation videos from years past, including: 2012, 2013 and 2014.
“This year is especially exciting,” said Paul Wood, Choptank Transport’s director of carrier services. “We’ve joined forces with MMTA to say thank you to the men and women who keep the nation’s freight moving. Being responsible for 40 tons on the road is not an easy job. It often means days away from home navigating through all kinds of weather and difficult traffic conditions, while being under pressure to deliver cargo on time. The job they do is truly admirable. It’s nice to celebrate this once a year, but we should be thankful for their hard work and dedication all year long.”
Louis Campion, President and CEO of the Maryland Motor Truck Association, also praised today’s truck drivers. “Maryland is one of the most truck-dependent states in the country. 93 percent of all Maryland communities depend solely on professional truck drivers to deliver their goods. Professional truck drivers keep the shelves of our local supermarkets stocked, deliver medicine to hospitals, and are among the first to respond in severe weather as they bring critical goods to aid in recovery. We are pleased to recognize them for their efforts to keep the economy moving safely and efficiently."
Truck drivers passing through Elkton, Maryland, on Friday, September 16, 2016, can stop by the Elkton Travel America Center/Petro Truck Stop off of I-95, exit 109B, 1400 Elkton Road, Elkton, Maryland 21921. Choptank Transport and MMTA will be handing out gift bags to drivers that stop and say hello from 12:30 pm – 4pm. The travel plaza will be offering various discounts as well throughout the day.
