PRESTON, MARYLAND – August 21, 2019, Choptank Transport, a national third-party logistics firm headquartered on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, is proud to announce it has established a Choptank Transport Community Foundation.

The new entity is a partnership with the Mid-Shore Community Foundation which acts as an umbrella for companies in the area seeking a charitable arm to their current business. Mid-Shore connects private resources with public needs to enhance the quality of life throughout the regions of Caroline, Dorchester, Kent, Queen Anne’s and Talbot counties.

Geoff Turner, President and CEO, said, “Choptank’s mission as a company is to enhance the quality of life of the people who live and work in the community surrounding Choptank Transport locations, including our Denver, Dallas, Tampa, Atlanta and Baltimore offices. I have always believed that giving back is part of our duty to the community and as we’ve grown, establishing a formal foundation was the logical next step.”

Choptank Transport CFO, Marcia Wood, is excited about this new addition to the business. “Having a foundation allows us better visibility and transparency. It showcases the efforts of our employees and our company within the community. It also may help us raise more money; people are more likely to donate to an official 501-c3 because they receive the tax benefit. The non-profit status also acts as verification and validation that the money donated is being overseen and used as promised. Mid-Shore also takes away the burden of the many administrative tasks because they handle all the back end paperwork.”

Choptank’s first event through its newly formed foundation is an upcoming golf tournament, 10 Better than Par. The proceeds from this event will benefit ten local charities that Choptank selected, including Operation We Care, Compass Regional Hospice, Character Counts Mid-Shore, The Bonnie Hilghman Cancer Fund, Food for Learning, Caroline County Recreation and Parks, Lifetime Wells International, Talbot County Department of Parks and Recreation and both the Easton and Preston, Maryland Volunteer Fire Departments.

Choptank Transport encourages its employees to decide what charities the company wants to support through its community involvement committee. The foundation will be a tremendous asset towards these efforts, enabling Choptank to fund more events with greater reach and added success.
