Choptank Transport, a nationally recognized, full-service logistics provider, is pleased to announce the addition of six Salisbury University student interns to its Preston, Maryland headquarters this summer.
Choptank’s long-standing partnership with the university began in 2014 when the logistics company established a $50,000 endowment scholarship fund for students pursuing a degree from the Perdue School of Business. At that time, Choptank also became the first primary sponsor of the school’s Mid-Atlantic Sales and Marketing Institute program, which serves as a research and academic center for professional selling within the Perdue School of Business.
“Choptank has become a popular choice for students seeking summer internships,” said Sarah Andrew, talent acquisition manager at Choptank Transport. “We host an ‘Intern for a Day’ program that gives students a glimpse into what it’s like to work in the industry. They get to experience firsthand how much opportunity exists in the field of logistics, and it’s a great preview for a summer intern.”
Andrew added that students seeking employment as interns or as postgraduates are finding it more challenging than expected with the fallout from COVID-19. While many companies are rescinding internships during the pandemic, Choptank has remained focused on maintaining valuable, enriching experiences for students.
Choptank’s summer internship program runs from May 26 through July 31, 2020. All six students have expressed interest in joining Choptank’s sales department after graduation in one of the company’s six office locations: Preston, Baltimore, Dallas, Denver, Atlanta, and Tampa. The company’s expansion will continue next spring with the opening in Easton, Maryland, of a seventh office.
